#maskday

Even though I haven’t blogged in months, I’m going to jump right back in like I never left. That’s how I roll and hopefully my fellow bloggers can understand that a girl just needs a break every now and then. Trust me, I’ve still been buying product, testing product and even developing new routines.

One in particular that has been my religion is face masking. Now, I’ve always been a fan of face masks and I would do one when I decided to give myself facials, but for the past few months I’ve developed a routine that takes way more time, but is so satisfying! I’ve made a promise to myself to do masks twice a week. I now do a mask every Wednesday and Sunday. Like clockwork.

The Wednesday mask is one that I’ve used forever to control oil. I don’t test any new masks that day. That day is reserved for the mask that works and has worked for years. Sometimes I follow with a sheet mask to bring back some hydration.

The Sunday routine consists of 3 masks back to back. I do one to clarify, one treatment mask and one to moisturize. This is the day that I sample new masks so this routine never stays consistent when it comes to product. I leave each on for about 15 minutes and relax. It’s amazing. Although it seems like a lot of product the final result is amazing and makes me anxious to do it again next week. I’m going to make a list below of all the products I use on each day. Some vary because I’m always getting new product to test in my beauty boxes! Do you have any routines you stick to? What are they?

Wednesday:

Before masking I wash my face twice. Once with my everyday cleanser (I’ve been loving this one lately) and again with Noxema. I then exfoliate with the current scrub I’m using. If you are new to exfoliating and don’t have sensitive skin, I recommend this one. It’s great! I pat my face dry with a clean towel and start the process.

We are programmed to believe that impulse purchases are bad. That pack of gum, nail polish or magazine adds up to millions over the years and could have gone into a bank account and raised your net worth. I DON’T BUY IT. Sure, I’ve purchased something on impulse that I ended up losing moments after leaving the store or simply forgot about shortly after but there are those rare times that impulse purchases became one of the best decisions I’ve made at the checkout line.

Well, that time happened recently in the form of a tube of Milani lipstick. I’ve been riding the matte lip trend for several months now, so I surprised myself when I picked it up. Not only was it a darker berry shade but also a glossy formula. I’d typically shy away from such a combination, but the color was so beautiful I had to own it.

I decided to wear it with an otherwise boring grey outfit to add a bit of glamour on a casual Friday and fell in love. It drew just the right amount of attention to my lips and didn’t smear everywhere despite the creamy texture. I paired it with MAC Nightmoth lip liner which worked very well. I’m thinking I may purchase more Milani lip products! Have you tried any of them?

#empties

First off, I hope you all forgive me for this extremely basic photo of my empty containers, but in a quick “get out of the door” moment, I snapped this picture so that I wouldn’t forget to post about products I’ve used down to the last drop over the past couple of months. I can say with 100% certainty that these are all (with the exception of one) products that I would buy again.

1. Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water & Makeup Remover: I LOVED this product so much, I can’t believe that I ever had a skincare routine that didn’t include it. While for me, it doesn’t do a great job at removing eye makeup, it’s amazing for morning face cleansing. I didn’t realize until I started using this in the morning how dirty my skin can actually get at night. I soak a cotton pad with the micellar water and rub it all over my face and neck. It works wonders. I slather on a SPF enriched moisturizer afterwards and apply my makeup. Voila!

2. Malin+Goetz Clarifying Clay Mask: This mask is a tad on the pricey side so it would be a splurge, but if you are as into masks as I am, it’s worth it. I currently do masks on Wednesdays and Sundays, and use this one on Sunday when I have more time to devote to masking. It doesn’t sting or burn like other mud masks I’ve tried and it has exfoliants in it that feel like a mini-massage  when I smooth it on my skin. I would recommend it for those that have acne prone skin, that’s also sensitive. And, it smells like a spa treatment!

3. La Mer The Eye Balm Intense: I have a love/hate relationship with LaMer. Their products are so expensive, it’s almost a joke for someone like me but they usually deliver amazing results that you aren’t likely to see anywhere else. As far as eye treatments go, it’s hard for me to really weigh in on them working. I use them as more of a preventative treatment as I don’t have many wrinkles or under eye circles (unless I’m not getting proper sleep.) I will say that the product goes on smooth and absorbed well into my skin. Since I was using a sample I didn’t have the applicator that would come with a full sized jar so that may have made more of a difference. Either way, I’d rather spend $200 on something else.

4. Clinique All About Eyes: I’m so fortunate that for the past two years my mother in law gifted me with the entire Clinique skin care line for Christmas and it’s always the gift that keeps on giving. I use this eye cream every day and it seems to be doing a great job. I like that this cream not only focuses on diminishing wrinkles, but also de-puffs and brightens under my eyes.

5. Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief: Remember when gel moisturizers were all the rage last year? I didn’t get to try many, but this one gave me an idea of why everyone was loving them so much. Although the formula has a gel-like consistency, it goes on like a cream and adds a bit of shine and luster to the face. I use it as one of my many day moisturizers, or after a quick face wipe cleaning. It’s perfect for those that have normal skin and are looking for something that provides moisture, without weighing the skin down.

6. Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara: I’m beginning to think I talk about this mascara too much, so I won’t go into it. I ran out and will buy more. Enough said.

7. L’Oreal InFallible Pro Glow Foundation: I know that you all have heard all of your favorite beauty bloggers raving about the Infallible line, so you don’t need me to explain why this foundation is amazing. Although my skin is more on the oily side, this formula didn’t make my skin any more oily than I get naturally which was a shock seeing that it’s purpose is to provide a glow. The color blends really well with my skin and it was my go-to every day foundation for a long time. I highly recommend!

Pantone Color of the Year: Greenery

As you may very well know, I’m a big fan of the Pantone Color of the Year and how it inspires trends throughout the seasons. This year the color is Greenery and is said to represent new beginnings. I’m not really big on green when it comes to makeup, but I must say this color is truly inspiring. I’ve always liked the way green can add a pop of life into a number of things including decor, fashion and life.

The Pantone site not only introduces you to the color of the year with words and inspiring imagery, but also compiles color charts to show how this color will fit into others all around you. I’ve included some of my favorite color families below and in what aspect the colors inspire me.

How do you feel about this color of the year?

Well, damn.

So yesterday I had a super relaxing Sunday complete with salmon hand rolls, a mid-day cup of coffee and giving myself an at home facial. I decided to try a new exfoliator that I was introduced to about a month ago in a beauty box. — I must admit, sometimes it takes me a loooong time to review products! I typically exfoliate every other day anyway, but on facial days I give my face a bit more TLC by scrubbing a little while longer and really focusing on my nose and the apples of my cheeks since they tend to get really oily and have build up.

After washing my face in the shower I poured a bit of ClariSEA Instant Glow Powder Exfoliant in my hands and mixed with a bit of water to form a paste. The moment I started rubbing it on my face I realized..THIS ACTUALLY HURTS. All exfoliators naturally cause friction when sloughing off dead cells but this one mimicked shards of glass. If I didn’t get a couple of salt granules in my mouth, I would have read the label to see if glass was on the list of ingredients! I eased up the pressure and scrubbed my face for about 30 seconds.

I then cupped my hands, filled them with warm water and splashed the product off my face. WHOA. My skin felt super soft! Softer than I’ve ever felt it after exfoliating. My skin was so soft I couldn’t stop rubbing it! The whole experience shocked me so much I had to share it with you all. This product is super affordable and I highly recommend it to anyone that has a ton of oil buildup or dry flaky skin.

Have you tried this product already? Did it make your skin as soft as it made mine?

2017

Oh do I love New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Anything that involves champagne and glitter already ignites everything that makes me happy inside, and the thought of being able to start fresh in any capacity is freeing and relieving. One thing I really like to do is to really take a look at the past year and identify what changes I would make, how proud I am of myself and what steps I need to move forward with my life in a positive and loving direction.

After I’ve taken a look at where I’ve been, I move forward and make a resolution. Last year, I vowed to drink more water and I did actually stick to it! I started to keep a water bottle on my desk and chug away throughout the day and now, I can’t work without it. This year, I’m making a vow to do more activity. I’m not talking about going to the gym (although I could work that in a little more than I have been) but I want to go out and experience activities at least once a month. Activities that I wouldn’t ordinarily do. I’d also like to go out more during the week since I usually reserve socializing for the weekends.

I’m wishing you all a very happy new year, and I look forward to seeing what changes you will make.

Cheers!
