Color Story

unnamed

If anyone out there reads InStyle Magazine, they have an annual color issue that I REALLY look forward to. InStyle has devoted an entire team to color matching and the effect it has on great style. If I’m not mistaken there may even be an app devoted to it. The concept is taking any color and informing readers of what other colors compliment it. I don’t label myself as a fashionista (I wear more black than I do anything) but I do like this concept because the way colors look side by side impact the “big picture.”

I’m beginning to use the same concept for makeup and nail colors. I would categorize my skin color as “camel” and I was curious to know what other hues compliment it best. I’ve found that looking at beautiful décor helps me see how colors mesh with camel. While browsing Pinterest, I came across lots of photos that included camel furniture and these four really stood out as combos that I love. Funny thing is, I already have the complimenting colors available that I use in different ways. I’ll go through them starting at the top.

1. Essie Nail Polish in After School Boyfriend Blazer – My photo does not do this nail color justice, but this is a beautiful Navy color that I love wearing. I haven’t worn this very much since the weather has warmed up, but it adds a touch of class to my nails without having to depend on classic red. The inspirational décor totally inspired me to re-do my office by the way with navy and gold accents!

2. MAC Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Expensive Pink – This color is a MUST HAVE! It’s the perfect combination of a pinky-peachy gold. I love using it as a transition color and also on it’s own. As with all MAC Shadows, it’s heavily pigmented so it will show very well on all skin tones. The inspirational décor took me to the middle east. I love the fact that it’s a neutral color palette, but has loads of personality.

3. NYC High Definition Liquid Eyeliner – This is a very inexpensive gel liner that is perfect for touch ups. I will admit, it is not as bold as other gel liners I’ve tried, but with the $3.99 price tag, I just pop it in my purse when I’m out for the night in case I smear my liner or lose it completely. The inspirational décor is super urban and as I stated before, I love wearing black and it looks fantastic on all skin tones!

4. Nicka K Hydro Lipstick in Euphoria – I’ve seen Nicka K products around in beauty supply stores for a couple of years and I’ve really liked using them. Recently I picked up a lemony lip balm and this lipstick. It’s a beautiful shade of radiant orchid that I fell in love with. I don’t wear it often, but the photo I found of a similar color on a wall with a camel sofa brought it back to the forefront of my mind. It’s a beautiful Spring/Summer color and I’m not sure why I didn’t think of it before! It would also look really good as a nail shade.
